At Terumo, we enhance lifesaving medical technologies for the benefit of society. Are you eager to contribute to people's health and patients' wellbeing? We'll challenge you to become a master in your field of expertise. You can invest your talents in balance with your personal aspirations - live and work in harmony. Built on our Japanese origins; we are driven by respect, ownership and continuous improvement. It is at the heart of everything we do. This is how we make a difference in the lives of patients, customers and associates.
Department Info
Terumo is a manufacturer of medical devices. In Leuven (Haasrode), Terumo produces approximately 800 million injection needles, injection solutions, catheters and necessary accessories per year.
Our strong performance was recently rewarded once again with the arrival of a large pharmaceutical company for which we will produce specifically developed products. To this end, we will create additional production capacity, with a new machine park that combines automation with extensive data capture.
Job Summary
In order to ensure both the existing production and the start-up of this new production unit in the right direction, we are looking to expand our engineering team.
Starting from the product requirements, you build robust moulding equipment and processes, including material selection, transport to the assembly lines and start-up of the (new) moulding lines.
You will define MVP (minimal viable product) and concept solutions for their disciplines, so that it’s well integrated in the whole concept and perfectly fitting with the outcome requirements of the QFD, SIPOC, PFMEA analysis, supported by the results of engineering studies.
Job Responsibilities
- Set strategic objectives that directly contribute to team performance and business results within your area of expertise.
- Lead the development of product and process concepts from a plastic injection molding perspective, in close collaboration with multidisciplinary development teams.
- Select the optimal molding concept by scoring it against required properties, with a focus on material selection and technical feasibility.
- Industrialize the selected concept and introduce the necessary equipment into the production environment within the Cross-Functional Team (CFT).
- Document and define process steps, design principles, techniques, and design rules to serve as guidelines for future projects.
- Analyze process variables in injection molding (output-input), identify risks, and set boundaries using SIPOC and FMEA methods, while maintaining these critical documents.
- Propose necessary equipment, molds, and machines—both standard and custom solutions—and ensure the right choices are made for implementation.
- Conduct engineering studies and collaborate with the testing team to set up protocols. Analyze process capability, robustness, and set boundaries critical to both the product and the molding process.
- Create Global Manufacturing Standards (GMS) for molding equipment in alignment with all stakeholders and ensure these standards are applied globally.
- Stay up to date with cutting-edge technologies in injection molding and plastics processing, share this knowledge internally, and collaborate with external partners to drive innovations that improve cost, quality, and EHS performance.
- Set and challenge a modular and standardized engineering strategy that fosters efficiency and scalability in product development.
