We are seeking a talented and creative Senior Scientist to join our Auditory research team. You will be involved in basic research studies designed to understand the biology behind various forms of deafness and hearing impairment and evaluate efficacy of potential therapeutics.
As a Senior Scientist, a typical day may include:
Collecting and maintaining primary culture of mouse utricle and organ of Corti
Characterizing hearing in animal models using ABR and DPOAE to better understand the mechanisms of hearing loss
Performing functional and immunohistochemical experiments using animal models of auditory disorders
Working in-vivo with mice including general surgical techniques, collection of blood and tissue samples, and stereotactic drug delivery to the inner ear
Independently design and execute scientifically rigorous experiments to address core research questions
Carefully collect, analyze, and present data in our collaborative, cross-functional team environment

In order to be considered for this role, you must have at least a Ph.D. and 0-3 years of relevant experience or a B.S./M.S. and 8-10+ years relevant experience. We need someone with strong background in auditory and/or neuroscience. Experience handling animals is required, including dissections and microsurgeries. Experience working with animal models of auditory processing or neurological diseases is preferred. Familiarity with electrophysiological measures and micro-surgical methods in animal models is preferred. Must have experience with histology, microscopy, and image analysis. Some molecular or cell biology experience is advantageous. We are willing to teach protocols for inducing noise-damage in animal models, methods of evaluating hearing function, specialized surgical methods, molecular biology, biochemistry, histology, and tissue preparation.
