There is an immediate opening for a motivated Research Associate to join the Bioengineering team in Evotec US. Evotec Reagents is a growing business unit delivering high quality materials to the pharmaceutical and agrochemical industry. Driven by business demand, our group was launched in Q1 2015 and is rapidly expanding, requiring suitable candidates to join this flagship operation.
The Research Associate will join an in-sourced Bioengineering team of Evotec employees responsible for protein expression and next generation sequencing with a leading protein engineering group at a premier research-driven biopharmaceutical company located in Rahway, New Jersey.
Candidates will be responsible for the expression of a range of protein targets at a variety of scales and related research tasks as assigned. The successful candidate will:
- Apply technical skills to execute assignments and experiments within the necessary project timelines that are critical to the success of the team.
- Provide input into experimental design and aid in technical problem solving and workflow improvement efforts.
- Communicate technical details and results through physical records, electronic notebooks, conversations, and by e-mail, as well as ensure that data is recorded in laboratory information management systems and sample inventories are accurate and up to date.
- Take initiative to maintain an efficient, well-stocked, safe, and compliant laboratory environment and individual compliance in training and records.
- Gain exposure to protein engineering design and directed evolution approaches and how they are applied to generate novel biocatalysts and biopharmaceuticals.
- Receive on-the-job training through active coaching and mentoring by members of the Evotec in-sourced team and company employees and develop as an individual contributor and subject matter expert in a collaborative team that values diversity, inclusion, innovation, and impact.
Requirements:
- B.S./M.S. in Molecular Biology, Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Full time experience in a research laboratory setting.
- Hands-on experience with and knowledge of standard microbiological practices for working with biosafety level 1 organisms.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow standard operating procedures and deliver high quality results with accurate documentation of work and results.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Availability for travel to Princeton, NJ, for training and quarterly meetings.
- Availability for approximately once monthly Saturday morning/Sunday afternoon work as part of 40-hour work week.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
- Experience with multiple host organisms and/or cell free expression systems, with ample experience in E. coli expressions.
- Experience with liquid handling automation, and/or protein purification.
- Experience with assessing protein expression by SDS-PAGE, Western blot, etc.
