Position Summary
The Director of Engineering, Maintenance and Utilities (EMU) is responsible for all engineering, maintenance, and utility operations at the Lincoln site, which includes the main site as well as separate facilities for warehousing and Research and Development. The position also provides oversight and support for the White Hall site and works closely with other Zoetis sites and Global Engineering. This includes capital planning and execution, maintenance and reliability, energy management, process automation, utility operations, site security and facilities management. The incumbent is a member of the Site Leadership team and drives key strategic initiatives to achieve site objectives for safety, quality, compliance, supply, and continuous improvement in support of Zoetis objectives, values, and leadership practices.
Position Responsibilities
Capital Projects Team:
- Develop and execute capital investment plans and budget to meet site strategies and prepare capital project applications.
- Develop and maintain a Site Master Plan including evaluation of site capacity and utilization, capabilities, and technologies.
- Ensure that all capital projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the required quality.
- Maintain local Project Management Organization (PMO) to ensure efficient and effective execution of capital plan.
Engineering Systems Team:
- Develop and implement verification plan for the site facilities and equipment, as part of the Site Master Validation Plan.
- Develop, execute, and approve all verification documentation necessary to support site capital projects and revalidation program.
Maintenance Team:
- Develop and implement plant maintenance policies and procedures for equipment and facilities.
- Develop and implement an effective reliability maintenance program to ensure the high availability of critical equipment.
- Manage site facilities and equipment, including building and equipment maintenance and spare parts supply, site security, pest control and other site services.
Automation Team:
- Develop and implement automation plan for the site.
- Maintain, improve, and implement automation systems including manufacturing equipment, building management systems, and other systems critical to site operations.
Utilities:
- Manage the operation of utilities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations in compliance with regulations.
- Manage resources, materials and energy consumption and drive the site sustainability program.
Other:
- Ensure facilities, equipment and maintenance activities are fully compliant with GMP, Zoetis Quality Systems, EHS SOPs and EHS regulations.
- Promote the use of operational excellence tools to ensure competitive advantages in the industry.
- Develop the engineering teams' capabilities, including the support of individual development plans and on-the-job training for staff.
- Prepare department budgets and control engineering expenditures within approved budget.
- Provide leadership support consistent with Zoetis practices, core competencies, and core beliefs.
- Maintain technical skills in the latest techniques for engineering technology, reliability, sustainability.
- Lead and/or support Centers of Excellence (COE's) and Communities of Practice (COP's) within the Zoetis Engineering Network.
- Provide support for all VMRD functions at the site.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required. A master's degree in engineering or MBA is preferred.
- 10 Years' experience in Manufacturing/Project Engineering/Maintenance is required, with 5 years' experience in a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Operation preferred.
- Experience with large scale projects is strongly desired.
Technical Skills and Competencies Required
- Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of the maintenance/engineering function.
- Proven leadership and management experience with demonstrated ability to prepare and administer budgets, develop long range operational plans, and apply resources to accomplish projects on schedule.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and collaborate with all levels of Zoetis Global manufacturing, cross functional teams, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, and suppliers.
- Proficiency in contract negotiations and concise/practical presentations.
- Demonstrated ability to function and influence in a team environment and have excellent interpersonal planning and management skills.
- Good overall understanding of Environmental standards, FDA, and EU regulatory requirements for product manufacturing as they relate to equipment and facility design and utilization is desired.
- Solid experience with Facility/equipment/process validation is preferred.
- Working knowledge of environmental compliance is a plus.
- Proficiency in English, both written and oral.
- Computer proficiency with email; internet/online training; working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; familiarity with manufacturing software programs.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving business results in a manner consistent with Zoetis Core Beliefs and Mission Elements.
- Requires approximately 5% domestic travel and occasional international travel.
