Principal Scientist
Position Summary
Catalent’s Greenville, N.C. facility specializes in end-to-end turn-key solutions for oral solid dosage forms, including integrated formulation development, analytical services, commercial manufacturing, and packaging. The Principal Scientist leads laboratory personnel in daily activities providing coaching and feedback to team members. The Principal Scientist provides laboratory support for internal business units and external client pre-commercial and commercial processes and projects.
The Role
Supervise, guide, and oversee learning and development needs for a team of approximately 1 to 3 chemists and other laboratory personnel at various levels.
Review routine and complex laboratory experiments for accuracy and provide guidance to junior team members to ensure future compliance.
Perform scheduling of tasks and adherence to assignments and executes as leadership under stated timelines Independently perform complex testing for chromatographic, spectrophotometric, and specialty methods (Mass Spectral, Particle Size, and Elemental Impurities) of analysis for new chemical entities and/or drug products.
Evaluate complex methods of analysis for chemical entities and drug product formulations and provide solutions and recommendations for ensuring robust methods are developed and/or validated.
Ensure accuracy of testing by assigned team following method/standard instructions and adhering to internal SOPs to eliminate the potential for repeat testing, deviations, and investigations.
Serve as a technical liaison between functional groups across the organization in developing tools, systems, and experimentation with a primary focus on keeping current and exceeding expectations of technological advances.
Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for improved efficiencies, internal/external client serviceand teamwork within the analytical group.
Independently authors standard operating procedures, analytical testing procedures, final submission ready documents, and creates document templates for use by junior staff members.

The Candidate
Associate degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, or equivalent science degree with 9 years of professional experience in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry.
BS or BA degree in a science-related field (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences) with 8 years of professional experience in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry.
Master’s degree in a science-related field with 6 years of professional experience in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry.
PhD in a science-related field with 4 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical analytical chemistry.
Majority of work day is performed while standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing.
Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
Some exposure to hazardous chemical and other active chemical ingredients.
Must be able to work in a team environment.
