The Senior Scientist (Area Lead) is a bench level job in the Research and Development group at Ferring and will focus on innovative research and test method development for early microbiome-directed therapeutic development..

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Senor Scientist (Area Lead) include but not limited to:
- Lead a small team of molecular biologists including the planning, execution and reporting of test method development
- Design and execute experiments, including analysis and interpretations of results
- Manage external collaborations for routine method development and performance
- Writing of technical methods and SOP’s
- Document experimentation through high-quality report writing that incorporates detail and big-picture perspectives
- Maintain expertise through familiarity with current and historic scientific literature
- Interface with Quality Control/Assurance, Regulatory, and Manufacturing teams as necessary
- Collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary R&D team
- Train team members on assays, troubleshooting assays, and collaborating on method development
- Work closely with Data Science team to support development of bioinformatic workflows using internal data
- Perform cost analyses of assays and instrumentation
- Present data and network at local or national meetings as appropriate
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in biological science or bioengineering field with 5-7 years’ experience or Ph.D. with 3-5 years’ experience
- Molecular biology method development and validation expertise including: qPCR, digital PCR, Next Generation Sequencing (short and long read), nucleic acid extraction, etc
- Experience with statistical analysis
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment
- Significant microbiology or microbiome research experience
- Excellent writing, communication, and other organizational skills including laboratory & data organization
- Knowledge of biological and chemical safety
- Prefer experience in project or team management
- Prefer experience with biological data and bioinformatics
- Prefer experience transferring assays to other organizations, either internal or external
- Prefer demonstrated publication or deliverable record in a microbiology laboratory setting

Our Compensation and Benefits
At Ferring, base salary is one part of our competitive total compensation and benefits package and is determined using a salary range. The base salary range for this role is $99,000 to $116,000, which is the reasonable estimate of the base compensation for this role. The actual amount paid may differ based on non-discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education and primary work location. Additional compensation for this role will be provided based on competitive annual incentive compensation targets in the form of an annual bonus - payouts are based on individual and company performance.
