This Senior Director, Engineering role will lead an organization with responsibility for successfully developing, integrating and sustaining material and specialized equipment solutions for the Implant Manufacturing Network. The Senior Director will leverage strong technical expertise and strategic thinking to develop and align upon comprehensive strategies to address key opportunities. The Senior Director will develop strong cross-functional partnerships across Business Units (BUs) and Global Supply Chain stakeholders to drive results. Specific areas of responsibility include Tissue Process Engineering, Textile Process Engineering, Material Science and Equipment Process Development. The Senior Director will also attract, retain and develop a highly engaged team of technical experts and people leaders.
How You’ll Make an Impact:
Plan and direct complex project activities with large scale and significant business impact with the accountability for successful completion of all project deliverables to the business and develop project plans and schedule, scope, and quality objectives. Lead in identifying risk, developing mitigation strategies, alternative solutions, resolving issues, etc. in collaboration with cross-functional groups.
Oversee the development and integration of enterprise-wide process solutions for new implantable devices, in close alignment with the Business Unit (BU) and cross-functional Global Supply Chain (GSC) partners such as R&D, Centers of Excellence (COEs), external component/material suppliers, sourcing, Edwards Quality Lab (EQL), regulatory affairs, pilot operations and manufacturing teams in 4 plants.
Manage directors, managers, and/or experienced professionals and/or oversee the work of one or more areas, functionalities, and/or locations and have
Develop and manage Opex and Capex budgets to support operational objectives through Strat Plans and Annual Operating Plans (AOP). Identify and deliver Value Improvement Project (VIP) savings.
Lead efforts to optimize business processes and systems by assessing business needs and developing, proposing and implementing technology solution options.
Develop a robust talent development and succession planning in alignment with functional growth strategies across the organization. Manage team members and engineering activities with overall responsibility of staffing, planning, budgeting, managing expense priorities, performance management, and working through directors to achieve results.
Travel up to 20% to visit our global manufacturing plants and suppliers.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Technical understanding of process engineering, design and process excellence methodologies including Six Sigma, LEAN, GMP, EH&S guidelines, supplier development and process validation.
Deep engineering expertise including first principles thinking that can be applied across a host of engineering processes and systems.
Knowledge of design controls for Class II & III medical devices, including familiarity with one or more of the following: implantable devices, medical device components including textiles, metals, tissue and chemicals.
Strong business and financial acumen.
Ability to develop comprehensive business cases and align cross-functional teams with key projects and initiatives.
Leadership and communication skills with extensive experience interacting and engaging stakeholders at multiple levels in the organization with track record of brand recognition and having established trust.
Experience in organization change management possessing skills and ability to influence internal and external stakeholders, manage and socialize expectations, understand trade-offs and their impact, and mobilize cross-functional teams to make effective business and patient focused decisions.
Develop peer, cross-functional, cross-business unit and external relationships to maximize best practice sharing and team effectiveness.
Strong project management skills and ability to explain complex concepts and strategies in understandable terms across the organization.
Demonstrated ability to lead highly engaged teams and provide coaching and feedback, including responsibility for all employee actions and partnering with HR on all aspects of employee relations.

For California, the base pay range for this position is $182,000 to $259,000 (highly experienced).
