Job Description
As a Senior Software Engineer focused on Security for Rockwell Automation products, you will have the opportunity to design and develop industry-leading commercial software known for its innovation and usability. With an emphasis on security, this position focuses on ensuring product software is developed employing best practices for secure design and coding.
In this role, you will play a critical part in building secure software systems, identifying security vulnerabilities, and implementing security solutions to protect our applications and data. You will work closely with product, development, and operations teams to ensure that security is integrated into every step of the software development process.

Essential Functions
- Designs, develops, and implements security functionalities and tools to enhance the security posture of our software products.
- Contributes to the estimation of schedule and resources needed to execute a design. Provides input to determine tradeoffs between requirements, speed, cost and vulnerability in the choice of a design approach. Provides progress reports, as needed.
- Performs security code reviews and vulnerability assessments to identify and mitigate potential security risks.
- Develops and maintain automated security testing tools and frameworks to ensure continuous security validation.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to junior engineers on secure coding practices and security risk mitigation.
- Stays up-to-date with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry standards to ensure our software meets current security requirements.
- Create and maintain documentation on security protocols, configurations, and best practices.
- Advocate for security-first development across the organization and work to embed a security culture within engineering teams.
- Thinks outside the box and is willing to research and explore new avenues to overcome obstacles by utilizing the latest technologies and standards.
- Clearly communicates and conveys design concepts, both verbally and in writing.
- Able to learn and understand complex control system concepts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or equivalent
- Typically requires a minimum of five years of experience in a software product development with a focus on security engineering
- Deep understanding of secure coding practices, encryption algorithms, and authentication protocols; good understanding of software vulnerabilities and mitigations
- Proficiency in C/C++ or Java/Kotlin and familiarity with secure development patterns
- Experience with cloud security in platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Strong experience with vulnerability scanning, threat modeling, and penetration testing
Desired Qualifications
- Good understanding of object-oriented design principles and common design patterns
- Software development on both Windows and Linux
- Direct experience with the Industrial Automation industry
- Direct experience collaborating with local and global technical development teams
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Rockwell Automation’s hybrid policy aligns that employees are expected to work at a Rockwell location at least Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays unless they have a business obligation out of the office.
