Job Summary:
The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks associated with chemical processes to ensure safe and compliant operations. This role involves the development and implementation of process safety protocols, risk assessments, and management systems to prevent accidents and ensure overall PSM compliance at the site.
Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOP, PHA, LOPA) for chemical processes.
- Identify potential safety hazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Develop and implement process safety management (PSM) systems and practices.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Develop and update safety procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Ensure proper documentation and communication of process safety protocols to all plant personnel.
- Investigate and analyze process safety incidents, near misses to determine root causes. Develop and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
- Conduct safety training sessions and drills for plant personnel. Promote a culture of process safety and ensure practices are followed.
- Perform regular audits and inspections of processes, equipment, and facilities. Identify improvements area and ensure timely implementation.
- Review and provide input on process design and modifications to ensure process safety considerations are incorporated.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to optimize safety in new and existing processes.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of safety systems such as emergency shutdown systems, fire and gas detection systems, and safety instrumented systems (SIS).
- Maintain accurate records of safety activities, risk assessments, and incident reports.
- Prepare and present safety reports and metrics to management.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Safety, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications (e.g., Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPS)) are a plus.
- Experience: 6-8 years of experience in process safety, in a chemical plant
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of process safety management, hazard analysis, and risk assessment techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant process safety regulations and standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
