Position Description:
Fiber optics is used for delivery of coherent or non-coherent radiation into eye for visualization (illumination) and/or treatment purposes. Also, the handpiece may need to serve other functions like delivery or aspiration of liquids to or from the eye. This position requires a hands-on person with generic familiarity with fiber optics and photonics equipment like lasers and power meters. Throughout the internship the design and process requirements get discussed with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and the intern can prototype, test, and iterate on the design and process to meet the requirements.
The Alcon team is looking for a talented and motivated intern to join us onsite for Summer 2025 at the Lake Forest, CA location.
Alcon interns will have the opportunity to not only gain industry experience and network with other Alcon professionals. They will also have the chance to make a real-world impact by working on meaningful projects that will help patients and customers see brilliantly. Key Responsibilities:
Interacting with the key stake holders to define and refine design and process requirements.
Hands-on engineers with familiarity with fiber optics and operating photonics equipment's like lasers and power meters
Perform Design of Experiment (DOE), execute protocols, and present to team the data and next steps.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to internship or co-op, and at least one additional semester following internship or co-op.
Must be pursuing at least a bachelor’s level degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Applied Physics or related major.
Academic performance: Minimum cumulative GPA 2.8/4.0
Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. extracurricular activities or projects)
Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT can be accommodated)
Ability to commit to a full time (40 hrs. per week) Intern position.
