The Alcon Vision Science team is looking for a talented and motivated intern to join us onsite for next summerat the Johns Creek, GA location. We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon. As anInternVison Scientist, you will explore novel methods which support new product development for ophthalmic medical device products. This person willinteract with design engineers, metrology engineers, chemistry and process scientists, and clinicians,to advance the state-of-the-art, in terms of predictive vision science models in the fields of Presbyopia, Myopia,and Astigmatism Correction.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Develop data analyses, image processing or simulation-based summaries of clinical and in vitro lens data, leveraging vision science insights to inform lens design targets, clinical targets, and engineering tolerances.
Key Responsibilities:
Computational method development (code generation) for physics based optical design analysis and vision science based predictive modeling.
Independently collect lens design data from state-of-the-art optical and mechanical CAD systems.
Build data analyses, image processing or simulation-based summaries of design, clinical and optical metrology data.
Develop vision simulations based on design and metrology data.
Data management, pre-processing and visualization development for optical design and optical metrology data.
Optimize data storage for faster & easier search and access to data. Collate and pre-process multiple independent data sources for AI model generation.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to internship or co-op, and at least one additional semester following internship or co-op.
Must have a graduation date of December 2025 & beyond
Must be pursuing at least a M.S or PhD in Vision Biomedical Engineering, Optics, Optical Engineering, Physics, Vision Science, or Optometry or any related areas
Academic performance: Minimum cumulative GPA 2.8/4.0.
Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. extracurricular activities or projects).
Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring sponsorship (students on an F1 visa with CPT may be accommodated).
Ability to commit to a 10-12 week, full time (40 hours per week) summer internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Vision Science, Visual Optics, or Physics.
Analytical skills, including data analysis using tools such as MATLAB, Minitab, Python, JAVAetc.
CAD experience (CREO preferred)
Ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
