Position Description:
Provide technical support on optical design, optical simulation, and performance characterization while working cross-functionally with other teams to create excellent ophthalmic product solutions. This position investigates and evaluates existing technology and designs new methodologies, materials, machines, or processes as needed for medical device development.
The intern is required to carry out extensive research in optical design and optical metrology, primarily in accommodative and refractive correction research areas.
Key Responsibilities:
Design proprietary optics optimized for human vision and providing reliable optical metrology for performance inspection.
Internal interaction requires interpretation of complex information, and external interaction requires exchange of factual information.
Interpret information to make decisions impacting their own scope of work.
Under general supervision, the intern will be responsible for planning, conducting, and executing IOL (intraocular lens)-related research and development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be enrolled in an accredited university or college for at least one semester prior to the internship, and at least one additional semester following your internship
Must have a graduation date of December 2025 or later
Must be pursuing a PhD in Optics, Optical engineering or Vision Science
Academic performance: Minimum cumulative GPA 2.8/4.0
Demonstrated leadership skills (i.e. extracurricular activities or projects)
Must be authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis. Students on an F1 visa with CPT work authorization may be accommodated
Ability to commit to a 10-12 weeks summer internship, full time (40 hrs./week) project
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with optical design, optical engineering and optical software like Zemax or Code V preferred
Candidates with an advanced degree in Optics, Optical Engineering, Vision Science, Physics or a related engineering field will be given preference.
Pursuing a PhD degree
Able to work independently and collaborate as part of a team
