Your Role
The Sourcing Category team is accountable to manage the Global spend for her/his Category. She/he develops, implements and supports the sourcing strategy for her/his area of responsibility to generate value in the dimension’s financial contribution, supply security and sustainability. The scope includes the direct spend categories. She/he works in close alignment with the Global/Regional Sourcing Managers. The Sourcing Category team is leading Category team as a line manager. She/he guides and manages all sourcing activities within a specific Category in close collaboration with her/his stakeholders.
1. Leadership & Strategy
- Manage projects of high complexity and / or participate to Global activities within Sourcing LS
- Actively lead in the development of regional and global sourcing strategies and initiatives
- Lead and manage a sourcing team as a line manager
- Ensure and promote effective communication and co-operation within the Sourcing network (direct and indirect categories)
- Act as a HIC role model through motivation, delegation, communication and conflict management
- Build capable sourcing team (staffing, recruitment, development, retention, and succession planning)
- Establish and track clear and measurable objectives for all direct reports
- Assess performance and development areas
- Supervise the sourcing activities of their direct reports
2. Stakeholder management
- Establish close relationship with the Global / Regional stakeholders they regularly interact with as part of their sourcing/supplier management activities
- Engage in a consultative manner to develop value added opportunities and actively manage the demand
- Report regularly on their key results and activities
- Act as Business Partner for Business and/or Operations at all levels of the organization including senior management level
- May act as site lead for defined sites of medium to big size
3. Sourcing
- Lead Category Team(s) as a line manager to define the strategy and ojective setting process of the respective category
- Manage portfolio in the area of responsibility being accountable for the price development, incl. actively proposing cost saving projects
- Implement and conduct risk management process, and ensure availability of mitigation plans for key materials and/or services
- Lead/participate in strategic negotiations including agreements or strategic meetings with key suppliers
- Identify, qualify and develop best in class suppliers
- Actively contribute to Strategic Supplier Development as part of the SRM program
- Conduct supplier performance evaluation
- Run the sourcing projects in their area of responsibility, including the RFI/RFP process and participation in make-buy conversion decisions
- Ensure compliance with contract management process and other relevant SOPs
- Support the sustainability program within her/his team
4. Organization efficiency
- Set up the right team organization making best use of resources within MBS / SBS organizations and ensure a transfer of information and tasks as needed
- Remain available for the team in case of support / escalation required
- Drive, promote, contribute and lead the 3S (stop, standardize and simplify) mindset to increase efficiency in her/his team
- Support, contribute and lead to improve / maintain high employee engagement
- May contribute to the definition of roles and responsibilities, and contribute or even develop policies
This will be a hybrid role that may be based in St. Louis, MO or Milwaukee, WI.
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires graduate background and substantial relevant professional including managerial responsibility (>5 years)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Work experience preferably in a large multi-national organization in the Life Science or Medical Device industry, in a global, matrixed organization supporting and leading strategic sourcing/category management with minimal guidance
- Experience performing in a fast-paced, goal oriented and time-sensitive environment
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes in the respective category preferred with understanding of cGMP manufacturing practices a plus
- Requires advanced to deep and/or broad knowledge and experience in own discipline and beyond which may also require advanced market knowledge.
