About the role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Engineer to oversee and manage the sustainment and maintenance of our system software. This role is critical in ensuring the continued performance, compliance, and evolution of our systems through systematic integration of field issues, corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs), non-compliance reports, bug databases, and feature requests.
The ideal candidate will develop a deep understanding of system dependencies, hardware interactions, and version compatibility matrices, allowing them to seamlessly manage and sustain the system. This person will be responsible for creating and managing a schedule of targeted software releases and work with a dedicated software maintenance team to help drive more predictable and deterministic submission schedules with regulatory bodies.

Your responsibilities will include:
- System & Software Maintenance:
- Oversee the sustainment of software systems, ensuring operational continuity and addressing system issues.
- Integrate field issues, CAPAs, non-compliance reports, bug databases, and feature requests into a prioritized schedule for targeted software releases.
- Manage system dependencies, including hardware interactions, system configurations, and version compatibility matrices.
- Provide technical leadership for troubleshooting and resolving software bugs and performance issues in a timely manner.
- Release Management:
- Develop, implement, and manage a robust and sustainable release cadence for software updates.
- Create and maintain a software release schedule that balances new features, bug fixes, and regulatory requirements.
- Work with cross-functional teams (e.g., hardware, electrical, quality, regulatory) to ensure release schedules are aligned with system dependencies and submission deadlines.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Act as a bridge between engineering, product management, quality/risk, and support teams to ensure comprehensive understanding of system performance, field issues, and upcoming feature developments.
- Lead trade-off assessments and drive effective decision-making to ensure projects remain focused and on-track.
- Technical Leadership:
- Continuously improve the processes for software and system maintenance, release management, and issue tracking.
- Recommend and implement best practices for maintaining system stability and compliance while driving software evolution.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience in software development, systems engineering, software maintenance, or release management in a complex system environment.
- Proven experience in maintaining software systems, particularly those with significant hardware dependencies.
- Demonstrated experience in release planning and management, with a track record of successful and timely software updates.
- In-depth understanding of systems architecture, software development lifecycles (SDLC), and configuration management.
- Strong knowledge of system dependencies, hardware-software interactions, and version compatibility matrices.
- Proficient in bug tracking tools and databases (e.g., Jira, Bugzilla).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience working in a regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, aerospace, automotive).
- Experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) frameworks.
- Familiarity with Agile or other iterative software development methodologies.
- Experience with build/release automation tools and software version control systems (e.g., Git, Jenkins).
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance processes for software updates (e.g., FDA, ISO standards).
