Job Description
This role is in the Baby, Family, and Feminine Care business focusing on Baby Care innovation work and is considered an End-to-End Microbiology role. The candidate will be responsible for hands-on experimentation focusing on wet wipe preservation and microbiome, as well as clinical microbiome endpoints across the sector. The candidate will guide and influence technical project direction and tackle significant technical problems by demonstrating scientific skills and strong foundational microbiology/life sciences understanding developed through hands-on experimentation/application.
The R&D Microbiology role will work closely with the Baby Care business to deliver biosciences laboratory assays, microbiology testing and laboratory operations (e.g. safety, equipment, standards & compliance). The Scientist role works within a cross-functional global team of BU BFF Microbiologists, Clinical Scientists, Industrial Microbiology, Product Supply, Product Development/Products Research, Global Material Development and Supply, Quality Assurance, and Safety/Regulatory functions. As an integral member of the BFF Life Sciences Team, the scientist will:
• Train on BFF microbiology and biological assays, SOPs, test methods and standards to enable early learning and developmental work to drive innovation. Examples of work across a variety of projects will be in hygiene/ cleaning consumer benefits, microbiological assay development, and computer systems.
• Work with contractor resources within the MBC shared x-GBU microbiology laboratories for supplemental staffing for surges in work.
• Hands on laboratory investigation and documentation of work in electronic lab notebooks and Nexus/LIMS systems.
• Work in a BSL1 or BSL2 laboratory facility with compliance to safety, medical and laboratory operations norms and standards.
• Learn and grow digital innovation skills (e.g. Excel, ELN, Word, Enovia, Nexus, Veeva), for data capture and archive of work.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and reapply Life Science mastery to generate data and guide technical direction of projects/initiatives.
• Drive technical rigor and set high standards of quality with attention to detail and executional perfection.
• Ability to develop methods and perform general laboratory operations, assess raw materials, intermediates, and finished products, assign microbial specification and methods, support microbiological testing, and apply the integrate micro risk assessment principles and framework to guide new initiatives.
Job Qualifications
Life Sciences /Microbiology PhD preferred. Microbiology course work and/or laboratory experience is a plus for this role (including aseptic technique and accurate GMPs).
· Communication skills for building collaborative networks and working with different functional expert team members in a research setting.
· Written and verbal communication skills for learning and conducting laboratory assays and communications of results.
· Agility in problem-solving and change leadership skills when adjustments to the plan are needed in a fast-paced innovation environment.
Detail-orientated and ability to lead assay documentation and maintain critical documents for compliance QA audits.
