We are looking for a dedicated physician-scientist with a strong background in human genetics to join our multi-disciplinary Cardiovascular, Metabolic and Skeletal disease Therapeutic Area Genetics (TAG) team at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC).
As a physician-scientist, you will take a leading role in the RGC’s translational genetics program. This will include multimodal phenotyping in the RGC’s vast collection of cohorts; designing and implementing large-scale genetic and epidemiologic investigations; mining data to identify potential targets for treatment and prevention of a wide array of human diseases; and driving translation of genetic insights. You will work in close collaboration with various colleagues at the RGC and Regeneron more broadly, including scientists and clinicians in our pre-clinical biology and clinical development teams. This position will grant you the opportunity to develop deep expertise in the applications of human genetics to all stages of drug discovery and development, and to play a leading role in the discovery and translation of tomorrow’s transformative therapies.
As a Physician Scientist, a typical day might include the following:
Working with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, bioinformaticians, statistical geneticists, physician-scientists, and other members to design, implement and interpret large-scale human genetics studies.
Mining and interpreting genetic association results to identify causal genes and variants, and to prioritize candidate drug targets, in collaboration with RGC and broader Regeneron colleagues.
Generating, summarizing, and communicating results in meetings to various audiences; leading or contributing to the writing of scientific reports and publications.
Working with colleagues in clinical development to apply genetic data and insights to the design, conduct or interpretation of clinical research activities.
Using your clinical experience and medical knowledge to define high-quality and refined phenotypes for genetic discovery and target validation.
Representing the TAG team in cross-functional initiatives within RGC and Regeneron.
Collaborating with industry and academic partners in collaborations of strategic interest to the RGC.
Preparing tables, figures, written reports, and results summaries; Drafting portions of scientific manuscripts, internal reports, and patent applications.
This job might be for you if you have:
A passion for using your medical and scientific expertise to understanding the genetic basis and causes of cardiometabolic diseases, and translating this knowledge into therapeutic insights. An outstanding candidate will have previous experience with phenotypes related to these diseases.
A demonstrated ability to design and lead human genetics studies delivering medically relevant findings in a team-based environment.
Experience leading complex human genetics research endeavors, have knowledge of study designs and analyses, including GWAS, exome, or genome sequencing in a cohort, case-control, or family-based studies, and can integrate data resources to translate initial findings.
Outstanding communication skills and an ability to summarize and present the results of human genetic studies to a variety of audiences.
You thrive in a highly interactive environment with a diverse team of colleagues and a commitment to promoting a collegial and highly inclusive working culture.
You are committed to high-quality science, the highest research standards, work ethics, and integrity.
To be considered for this role, you must have an MD or MD/Ph.D. with a strong background in and knowledge of human genetics or genetic epidemiology, training and experience in translational human genetics, genetic epidemiology (or related fields), and strong quantitative skills. Familiarity with the applications of statistical genetics to gain medical insights including polygenic scores, quantitative traits analyses, rare variant analyses (e.g. burden tests), GWAS and Mendelian randomization, and familiarity with command-line interface, programming languages, and statistical software (eg. R, Python). Experience with the use of genetics in combination with other “omics” technologies (eg. metabolomics, proteomics, transcriptomics) is preferred. Must be onsite at least 3 days a week.
