We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon and we are hiring for a Senior Engineer - EMC/EMI Simulation who will be located in Lake Forest, CA. This role will support R&D in various stages of design and development for Signal Integrity (SI), EMC and electrical safety by performing simulations to evaluate product performance, as a team member within the Electronics Modeling and Simulation group and will plan, execute electromagnetic simulations and implement new methods and processes as needed to reduce design cycle times and improve product performance.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Perform a wide range of technical work in Signal Integrity and Electromagnetic Compatibility simulations. Requires strong analytical skills and thorough understanding of electromagnetic wave propagation, transmission line theory, antenna modelling, frequency and time domain analysis of electrical circuits, effects of cables, connectors and PCBs.
Expert user of computational electromagnetics simulation solvers like HFSS, SIwave, CST with demonstrated ability to efficiently model and simulate complex assemblies for Characteristic Mode Analysis, radiated emission, radiated immunity and ESD. Working knowledge of industry standards such as USB, PCIe, DDR, Display Port, CXP. Familiarity with IBIS modelling is a plus.
Generate PCB stack up recommendations that comprehend the full capabilities of industry available board fabrication materials and technologies. Specify board layout topology, part placement and constraints that can be implemented by the PCB layout designer.
Proactively work with product design and layout teams. Perform SI and PI analysis on systems to ensure design margins are met. Correlate simulations with measurements and assist in troubleshooting of design errors related to SI and EMC
Perform power integrity simulations such as IR drop, loop inductance and capacitor optimization.
Define simulation project requirements and objectives, generate statements of work, define timelines and ensure on-time completion of projects.
Address unmet technical needs by developing and verifying new methods and techniques, leveraging knowledge of product portfolio. Leverage subject matter experts to build new capabilities and effectively incorporate into simulation plans for the benefit of projects.
Conduct SI / PI and EMI training workshops to inform different product teams regarding Electronics group’s simulation capabilities. Mentor other associates in use of the technology within the context of projects.
Accountable for producing professional analysis summary reports. Trusted to work on multiple simulation projects simultaneously.
Experience
Experience in the application of electromagnetic simulations related to PCB’s and antennas for product development
Electrical Engineering with relevant course work in transmission line theory and Electromagnetics Simulations.
Expert user of Ansys HFSS, SIwave, CST studio, Cadence Allegro and Altium
Experience with Creo, SolidWorks for CAD simplification is a plus
