This position works out of our Columbus, OH Plant location in the Abbott Nutrition division. Our Nutrition business develops science-based nutrition products for people of all ages, from helping babies and children grow to keeping adult bodies strong and active. WHAT YOU’LL DO AS A MULTICRAFT 1 LEAD TECHNICIAN
- Repair gear heads and reducers; run all types of piping including black iron, stainless steel, copper, PVC and flexible tubing; install various components including: seals, bearings, o-rings, gaskets, adhesives, belts, chains, rollers, sprockets, gears and sheaves; troubleshoot repair / rebuild centrifugal / positive displacement pumps; fabricate parts directly from blueprints; weld stainless steel, carb steel, aluminum; fabricate guards, etc. out of sheet metal and lexan; cutting of metal with a plasma cutter or torch; machining of parts on a lathe or mill for replacement of repair or worn parts; wire and repair electric motors; repair basic wiring and replace lighting fixtures and lamps; correct size fusing, motor overload protection and wire size per National Electric Code (NEC); read electrical schematics and wire directly from wiring diagrams; use of electrical and precision tools to complete assigned work.
- Proficient in performing repairs to production equipment and plant utility systems; troubleshooting complex, high-speed filling, packaging and conveying equipment; make machine adjustments to liquid line seamers, bottle sealers and bottle cappers; adjust timing systems such as rotary sterilizers or traywrappers for proper operation; ensure proper operation of electrical / mechanical
- Maintaining and troubleshooting problems and AC drive systems and PLCs. An MC I Technician should be able to access and interpret PLC logic via a laptop computer or desktop station using the appropriate communication language. Properly maintaining a PLC requires the understanding of the wiring schematics. An AMT should be able to install and wire an AC drive which requires and understanding of current flow and the theory of operation for the drive. Primary PLCs and drives in the plant include, but are not limited to: Allan Bradley, Modicon and Delta V and the associated communication packages. An AMT should also be able to perform advanced troubleshooting and repair operations on the plant’s PLC systems and commination network. This will require an advanced knowledge of the communication software and PLC code. The AMT should be able to access the PLC logic, interpret the sequence of events, troubleshoot problems with the logic and make corrections. The AMT should also be able to evaluate problems with the communication system such as the Ethernet or device net. Device HMI design and panel building will also be required.
- Work well with little supervision. Follow all plant and department procedures, GMP’s and plant safety rules. Keep all work areas clean and neat. Housekeeping of the shop is primarily the responsibility of everyone working in the area. Lead other employees including directing other maintenance personnel on a job and providing OJT for the employees new to the department. Record and communicate shift activity in an organized manner. Properly use the plant work order system and follow all stockroom procedures. Audit equipment and develop replacement part lists.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and two year mechanical / electrical technical degree or equivalent experience.
- Must have successfully achieved Multi-Craft Level II status and successfully completed one annual recertification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula and nutritionals.
- Completed 1-year of work at Abbott and be in good performance standing.
