Zoetis, the world's largest animal health company, is searching for a new member of their management team at their research farm site in Lincoln, Nebraska. This is an entry level manager position responsible for the scheduling, managing and coordination of daily husbandry and/or research and testing activities supporting manufactured product release testing in multiple animal species. The manager is responsible for managing the animal caretaker and facility support staff. The manager plays a leadership role in the operation of the animal facility reporting to a Site Leader and will be a member of the Lincoln Site Leadership Team.
The manager assures that a safe and sanitary environment is provided for all animals and employees. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Assuring the care for animals used in research and testing is provided in accordance with the regulations of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and accordance with the rules of accreditation for AAALAC. The position involves interactions with multiple persons and roles within the Veterinary Medicine Research and Development organization including researchers, site leaders, veterinary staff, and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC); interactions with regulatory agencies by hosting inspections and providing updates and any needed resolutions; writing and reviewing SOP, OJT and other operational documents; hiring and training of staff; participating in operations on-call duty including weekends, holidays, and some work outside of core business hours; providing direct supervision and development of the technical staff; evaluating individual performance; providing performance management as needed; ensuring technical staff adheres to relevant policies and procedures and providing cross-functional support and communications to facilitate animal studies.
This position will primarily support personnel operations dedicated to the release testing for marketed products in multiple animal species. The work will involve management and participation in activities that occur in conventional animal facilities and may involve biological hazards. Strict adherence to biosecurity practices that can include taking showers, wearing dedicated clothing and footwear, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) is essential for successful job execution.
Requirements:
BS degree or equivalent experience in a science field.
Two to four (2 - 4) years' experience in personnel management.
Highly Desired Skills/Attributes:
Previous managerial experience
Experience working with infectious diseases
Experience working in laboratory animal (including biocontainment) facilities
AALAS certification(s)
CMAR certification
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work environment:
May be required to work with zoonotic animal pathogens and chemicals. There may be handling of zoonotic organisms and working in ABSL-2 facilities requiring showering in/out procedures.
