Position Summary
Causal human biology is critical for successful drug discovery. While human population genetics provide strong and direct causal inference and evidence through methods such as Mendelian Randomization, general and robust causal inference methods are largely lacking in single-cell transcriptomics and epigenomics analyses. With the growing abundance of single-cell datasets, it is imperative to design and implement methods that discover and establish causal human biology in single-cell patient data. This intern project aims to firstly review current literature and summarize the latest development of causal inference methods in single-cell analyses, with a focus on interfacing human genetics and single-cell omics analyses. Then, working collaboratively with the mentor, the intern will select, adapt, and implement 1-2 promising methods and apply them to our internal patient datasets. The results will be presented to the broader team, which will hopefully contribute to the development of a single-cell causal human biology pipeline for future early discovery efforts.
The candidate will have the opportunity to work with various early discovery teams and gain valuable industry experience in drug discovery and target ideation. In addition, the candidate will also gain hands-on experiences on industry-level large-scale multimodal patient single-cell datasets, as well as the development and applications of single-cell methods in real-world drug discovery contexts beyond academic research.
Key Responsibilities
- Literature review on causal inference methods in single-cell omics analyses
- Implementation of at least one promising method
- Application of the method on provided internal single-cell datasets
- Delivery and communication of analyses and results to the team
Qualifications & Experience
- Proficiency in programming with Python or R as well as experience in method development/implementation in the corresponding language
- Experience in working with single cell omics data analyses. Knowledge on human genetics and/or single-cell method development is a plus.
- Enrolled in a graduate program in bioinformatics, or related fields
- Must be able to work full-time for the program duration
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn’t perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
