We foster an inclusive culture and are looking for diverse, talented people to join Alcon and we are looking for a Senior Scientist - Ocular Health (Formulation Development) in Fort Worth, TX. The Senior Scientist will play a key role in developing innovative solutions for topical ophthalmic products such as artificial tear and contact lens care solution. This position involves formulating and optimizing products with an emphasis on surface interaction, material-cellular interaction, structure-property relationship. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in formulation development. The Senior Scientist will contribute to the research and development of new biomaterials and formulations, focusing on novel ophthalmic materials development. This role supports the advancement of intraocular and extraocular materials.
In this role, a typical day will include:
Assist/lead the development of new ophthalmic formulations, including antimicrobial materials and stimuli-responsive gels.
With limited supervision, lead the topical ophthalmic formulation iterations that balance efficacy, safety, and compatibility.
Hands-on design and conduct experiences to establish structure-property relationship.
Support the design, selection and application of formulation and materials, including polymers, preservatives, surfactants, and buffering agents.
Provide technical guidance to junior scientists and team members.
Contribute innovation in formulation science, incorporating new technologies and methodologies to enhance product performance.
Stay current with industry trends, scientific literature, and competitive landscape to identify opportunities for new product development.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including microbiology, analytical, quality assurance, and other cross-functional team to ensure effective formulation development and timeline.
Communicate progress and findings to management and stakeholders.
Ph.D. in biochemistry, organic chemistry, biomaterials or a related field.
2-3 years of experience in formulation development or related field, specialized in design and characterization material and formulation system to establish structure-property relationship is required.
Expertise in biochemistry, material sciences particularly in relation to surface, contact lens materials and their interactions with care solutions.
Experience with ophthalmic technologies or emerging materials is a plus.
Good problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Bring to Alcon:
Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
