Job Overview and Primary Responsibilities
Assistant General Counsel--EHS, Operations & Regulatory will collaborate closely with senior leadership to develop and implement global legal strategies for EHS compliance. They will provide legal counsel on a wide range of EHS issues in a geographically-dispersed manufacturing organization. The position also serves to lead legal support and advice on remediation at active and legacy sites.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Serve as lead legal advisor to Corporate EHS on creation and/or refinement of standard operating procedures, tools and guidelines on specific EHS legal and regulatory requirements, including compliance with the following US laws and applicable foreign counterparts:
- Clean Air Act
- Clean Water Act
- Resource Conservation and Recovery Act
- Comprehensive Environmental Recovery, Compensation and Liability Act
- Toxic Substances Control Act
- Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, Rodenticide Act
- OSHA Process Safety Management program
- OSHA Standards under 29 USC 1910
- Support manufacturing sites on compliance with EHS laws and regulations and internal corporate EHS standard, including review or drafting of regulatory filings and communications with EHS regulatory agencies
- Lead legal strategy and advice to Corporate Remediation, including strategy development, negotiations with government agencies and other PRPs, and remedy implementation at the Company’s many active and legacy sites
- Develop, refine and delivery EHS training content
- Supporting and participating in EHS audits and action plans
- Support Global Regulatory organization on TSCA, REACH and FIFRA compliance
Candidate Profile
- At least 10-15 years of experience as a subject matter expert in multiple areas of EHS law, particularly in the U.S., with a preference for minimum of 5 years’ in-house experience in a global manufacturing organization.
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to build relationships in a global environment across different cultures and legal frameworks, and foster a results-oriented culture.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations, permitting, compliance, due diligence, and remediation projects and familiarity with parallel global requirements.
- Strong strategic thinking and tactical/execution skills.
- Experience managing, litigating and negotiating resolutions for complex environmental remedial issues.

- Ability to organize work, prioritize effectively, manage deadlines, and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced, demanding, and evolving environment
- Experience with U.S. (and preferably non-US ) environmental regulatory authorities.
- Ability to harmonize global, country, regional and local objectives in diversified manufacturing and international business environments.
- Experience in chemical\life sciences sectors a plus
- Experience with relevant pesticide regulations such as the US Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, Rodenticide Act (FIFRA) a plus
- Experience in a corporate law department is preferred
- Excellent written & oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and perform job duties without significant direct supervision
