POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Manager is responsible for leadership of the GMS Kalamazoo Engineering Team, inclusive of engineers with backgrounds reliability and process engineering. Interacts with management and site "customer" groups to establish and define requirements for both North and South campus supporting day-to-day production, engineering support for capital project implementation, new product introduction and special projects as required. Drives partnerships across sites to create a robust engineering team, well versed in manufacturing needs and driving efficiency and engineering expertise within the team.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the management of engineering team that supports both projects and manufacturing needs.
- Provide leadership and coaching to site engineers. Responsible for creating an engineering center of excellence within team, while driving development and sustainment of engineers. Accountable for retaining talent through growth and development plans for each individual while also recruiting talented engineers to the site.
- Collaborates with site value streams and other departments to ensure alignment of priorities, goals and objectives and strategic plan for supporting on going business needs with cross functional partners.
- Responsible for developing Engineering budget associated with future year projects for inclusion in the annual budget cycle, as well as general expense budget for team inclusive of business needs, business continuity and engineering growth and development.
- Responsible for engineers and all technical requirements (cGMP, QMS, etc) to ensure the site is in compliance with local and global engineering procedures. Responsible for implementation and participation of TPM, OEE, etc.
- Collaborates with the site Value Stream Leaders to define direction and strategy to enhance operational efficiency and throughput.
- Responsible for the verification of execution of deliverables to confirm projects and/or technical support provided the required results.
- Responsible for driving urgency, accountability and problem solving across team. Provides direction on training required to continue to develop competency and growth across site.
- Conduct frequent communication and regularly scheduled meetings with site leadership and project stakeholders.
- Promote the culture of continuous improvement, documented problem solving via the M1 process, lean manufacturing, safety first and quality within the team. Raise the bar to take the business to the next level in order to maximize resources and meet business needs.
- Improve processes through use of Lean Six Sigma tools and principles.
- Interface with Zoetis GMS stakeholders to ensure compliance and execution with applicable quality standards.
- Provide leadership and direction to engineers during audits, presentations to leadership and presence and ownership of Tier actions.
- Represent Engineering Team at daily Tier 3, taking and delegating tasks as required to support cross functional partners as needed.
- Drive accountability to document process, improvements, CAPA's, deviations and ensure timelines are achieved, without exception, across team.
- Other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Demonstrated strengths in the following capabilities: leadership, development of engineers, project management and execution, Lean Six Sigma, deviations/non-conformances, CAPA's, process monitoring, validation, reliability, coaching and mentoring.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills including strong presentation skills.
- Demonstrated record of innovation, change management, development of team members through continuous improvement and development/implementation of best practices.
- Motivated, self-starter with strong interpersonal, teamwork and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and ability to learn Zoetis systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical) is required, Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in engineering/leadership in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Strong working knowledge of pharmaceutical operations along with technical proficiency in capital project engineering.
- Certificates, Licenses or Registrations: PMP Certification or PE License preferred

- Ability to effectively communicate and work with colleagues at all levels of the Zoetis organization.

The colleague may be required to satisfy requirements of respirator fit testing and use the respirator as required.
