Mechanical Engineer – Puerto Rico - 12 Months with planned extensions
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our major, global pharmaceutical client on their latest new-build project based in Puerto Rico, this is a large-scale greenfield capital project and investing more than $1bn.
Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive mechanical design packages for HVAC systems, ensuring alignment with project specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and issue detailed scope of work packages for tendering and procurement processes.
- Create and review mechanical drawings, equipment specifications, layouts, and system schematics.
- Conduct feasibility studies and technical evaluations to determine optimal mechanical solutions for the project.
- Ensure HVAC designs incorporate energy efficiency and sustainability considerations.
- Collaborate with multi-discipline engineering teams to align mechanical designs with overall project goals.
- Work closely with procurement teams to ensure proper vendor selection and contract management.
- Liaise with construction teams to provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and handover.
- Act as the primary point of contact for mechanical-related issues, providing solutions to design challenges.
- Ensure all mechanical designs comply with relevant building codes, industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISO), and GMP guidelines where applicable.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or equivalent education and experience.
- Extensive experience in mechanical design and construction environments, particularly in HVAC systems.
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, including air handling units, ductwork design, chilled water systems, and pressurization control.
- Strong understanding of HVAC design principles, heat load calculations, airflow distribution, and energy efficiency strategies.
- Familiarity with industry software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and HVAC modeling tools.
- Ability to work 3 days per week on-site or 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off schedule.
- Experience working in pharmaceutical, industrial, or large commercial facility environments.
