Lead Discovery & Optimization (LDO) is a dynamic organization that supports the entire continuum of drug discovery (from lead identification to clinical candidate delivery) at Bristol Myers Squibb. The organization leverages state of the art technologies, complemented by deep subject matter expertise and broad scientific knowledge, to deliver innovative and comprehensive preclinical in vitro datasets to support our drug discovery pipeline in disease areas such as cell therapy, oncology, immunology, neurosciences and cardiovascular diseases.
As a Scientist in the Lead Discovery team within LDO, this individual will be responsible for applying our internal RNA-display methodologies for the identification and optimization of novel peptide-based therapeutics for programs across the BMS portfolio. This individual will be expected to collaborate within and across project teams to develop methods for identifying and characterizing peptides that enable and enhance synthetic chemistry efforts for novel targets. The successful candidate will have a strong peptide biochemistry background with laboratory experience using RNA-display to identify new molecular entities. The individual will be expected to spend time in the laboratory developing and conducting selection screening assays for the discovery of novel molecules to further the BMS drug discovery portfolio. Furthermore, this scientist will be required to plan and test methods for charactering the activities and properties of these molecules. Hands-on experience with RNA-display methods for peptide selection is a prerequisite for this role. Familiarity with biophysical characterization of peptides and peptide-target interactions, using techniques such as fluorescence, surface plasmon resonance, or mass spectrometry is a plus. Experience with biochemical and cell-based activity assay formats is also valuable for this role.
This Scientist will be expected to collaborate with project stakeholders to provide program enabling and decisional studies. The ideal candidate will balance technical skills with critical-thinking and have demonstrated a record of experimental accomplishment in chemistry or biochemistry with appropriate publications. The successful candidate will have a can-do attitude and a drive to proactively facilitate the continuous improvement of processes and culture.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide hands-on scientific and technical expertise in RNA-display technologies for peptide discovery.
Demonstrate ability in de novo biochemical, cellular, or biophysical assay design.
Knowledge of general peptide and protein biochemistry.
Demonstrate expertise in data capture and analysis, applied statistical analysis, quality control, and quality assurance measures.
Effectively organize and present data for consumption.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. with 0+ years of relevant academic or industry experience in peptide chemistry, biochemistry, or pharmacology.
In depth knowledge of selection technologies for drug discovery.
Hands on experience in biophysical, biochemical, and cellular assays for evaluating new therapeutics.
Knowledge of analytics tools for next-generation sequencing visualization and data analysis a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to convey complicated scientific results to a broad audience.
If you come across a role that intrigues you but doesn’t perfectly line up with your resume, we encourage you to apply anyway. You could be one step away from work that will transform your life and career.
