Job Description Summary
We are seeking an exceptional Data Science leader to head our Immunology Hub to deliver innovative analytics solutions across one of the industry’s largest and most diverse Translational Medicine portfolios. Working closely with Biomarker, Clinical, Data and AI experts, this role is responsible for delivering fit-for-purpose clinical biomarker strategies and leading data exploration initiatives to uncover new disease biology and/or patient population hypotheses. As a member of Quantitative Sciences and Innovation leadership, you will foster the adoption and application of new technologies and uphold reproducible clinical research standards. Your curiosity and drive will enable the identification of actionable biological insights and data-driven decision-making throughout Novartis, helping to get new drugs to patients faster.
Job Description
Major Accountabilities
Lead and grow a global group of applied translational Data Scientists by attracting, retaining, and developing talents.
Prioritize and allocate resources to meet Translational Medicine portfolio needs and create strong partnerships with line functions supporting Immunology programs.
Drive the adoption and application of state-of-the-art immunologic profiling platforms and analytic workflows such as single-cell, immune repertoire, and spatial sequencing, as well as proteomics, metabolomics in collaboration with internal or external scientists and vendors.
Provide scientific and organizational leadership for capability building, including annual portfolio reviews, workshops, and retrospectives. Drives the Biomarker Development “One BMD” vision and mission by evaluating emerging trends, technologies, and partnerships.
Partner with Data Science leaders and investigators across Biomedical Research and Novartis divisions to address and resource analytical needs at the interface of discovery and clinical development.
Contribute to Translational Medicine and Biomedical Research strategic initiatives and represent the group within the wider scientific community inside and outside of Novartis.
Build partnerships and alliances with external academics, innovative companies, technology partners, and data sources that can be leveraged to aid in the mission of the group.
Contribute to Novartis digital transformation, identifying and evaluating opportunities for cutting-edge machine learning and AI applications to solve critical business problems and operational efficiencies.
Minimum Requirements
PhD and/or MD required in immunology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, computer science, data science or related field with 8+ years of management and leadership experience leading analytical teams in the clinical sciences.
Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams. Prioritizes resources and develops talent across multidisciplinary functions in a diverse, global organization.
Outstanding ability to establish effective collaborative relationships with cross-functional scientific teams across an innovative, dynamic organization.
Extensive experience in analytical methods as applied to large multi-modal biological datasets, including hands-on understanding and analytic strategies for pan-omic technologies (genomics, proteomics, etc).
Deep understanding of drug discovery, biomarker discovery, and translational clinical development.
Building partnerships and alliances with internal stakeholders and external parties.
Strong understanding of clinical computational and data management infrastructure required to support GxP and non-GxP reporting activities.
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, and ability to represent the group within Biomedical Research and throughout the wider scientific community internal or external to Novartis.
Demonstrated organizational skills, aligning available resources to meet goals
