What will you be doing?
The R&D Engineer II (Software) will provide the design and development of the system software used in capital systems related to the organization’s product lines. Design and develop prototype systems to evaluate the feasibility of advanced concepts related to company’s core business.
Function as a technical software resource for organization’s electronic instrument products. Design, prototype and develop multi-process multi-threaded architecture, control software, algorithms and user interfaces used within next generation of platforms.
Perform technical activities, collaborate with internal and external resources/partners.
Investigate new technologies that could be used in an organization’s future products.
Investigate instrument failures from field returns to understand failure mechanism and institute design changes to improve product reliability.
Provide continuous engineering support on assigned products to maintain and improve cost, margin, performance, and quality.
Hybrid (must be local to Andover, MA) 2-3x in office depending on projects.
What will you need to be successful?
Education: Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related required. Master’s in Engineering preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of software design experience required. Medical device experience preferred.
Proficient in C++ and Object-Oriented Design Principles. Experience using C, and scripting languages like python preferred.
Proficient in designing secure and highly reliable embedded systems software on ARM microcontrollers and application processors.
Proficient in customizing and using Embedded Linux preferred. Experience using and customizing Jetpack and other RTOS preferred.
Proficient in eliciting and writing good quality software requirements.
Experience using lab equipment and debugging tools such as oscilloscope, logic analyzer and multimeters preferred.
Experience in using Agile methodologies like Scrum/Kanban preferred.
Experience in setting up nightly builds or DevOps pipeline preferred.
Experience in using automated test suite for embedded applications preferred.
Thorough understanding of IEC 62304, FDA and MDD/MDR design control requirements for electronic and software-controlled devices preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills required.
Leadership if any: Leader of self and influencing others without authority.
