Join our dynamic and innovative Pharmaceutical development team as a Technician Apprentice. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside our equipment specialist, gaining hands-on experience in maintaining and troubleshooting continuous lab equipment. As part of our multiskilled team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe operation and maintenance of our laboratory equipment, contributing to the development of new medicines.
Key Responsibilities and Opportunities:
- Develop and manage a comprehensive maintenance schedule, performing routine and non-routine maintenance activities efficiently and safely.
- Collaborate with equipment specialists and lab service providers, supporting chemists, analysts, and engineers in equipment setup and operation.
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environment, and Security standards, participating in risk assessment and change control processes.
- Acquire technical engineering skills and enhance organization, planning, and communication abilities within a team environment.
- Gain cross-functional experience with Drug Substance Manufacturing operations and contribute to the development of proactive maintenance processes.

Training and Development
AstraZeneca will sponsor you through your Science Industry Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship at Macclesfield College.
The apprenticeship combines working, earning a full-time salary, with fully funded part-time college learning (on average 1 day/week). This will give you the opportunity to gain a Professional Registration as Engineering Technician (EngTech) qualification as defined by the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC), just as you would if you went to college full-time, with the advantage of gaining relevant work-life skills and the excitement of helping to develop new medicines whilst taking your first steps towards a rewarding career.

Skills and Capabilities
We would be looking for the following attributes from our successful applicants:
- Enthusiastic individuals who are keen to learn and with a genuine curiosity for the equipment and technology involved in developing and manufacturing new medicines.
- Able to act independently but also to work and collaborate with a multi-skilled team
- Good organisational skills with an excellent attention to detail
- The ability to work on multiple tasks and understanding how to prioritise them
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive and methodical approach to problem solving
Entry Requirements
- 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) grades 9 to 4 including English and Maths
- To have achieved or predicted to achieve a minimum of 1 A level or equivalent at Grade C

This is a 30-month fixed term contract opportunity based at Macclesfield with a starting base salary of £21,500 + 11% benefits fund + bonus.
At AstraZeneca, we aim to set you up for success and we recognise the challenges that starting a new job can bring. We therefore offer a relocation package to help with the costs and process of moving for candidates who currently live more than 60 minutes from the site location for this Apprenticeship.
