Embedded Software Engineer - Networking
JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, develops and implements networking solutions for embedded systems and devices. Designs and maintains software for communication protocols, device drivers, and firmware in resource-constrained environments. Collaborates with hardware engineers and cross-functional teams to develop and optimize embedded networking solutions. Provides technical analysis and troubleshooting for network-related issues in embedded products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Designs and implements network protocols and communication systems for embedded devices, focusing on security and reliability
- Develops and maintains embedded software systems including device drivers and networking stacks
- Conducts performance analysis and optimization of network protocols in resource-constrained environments
- Collaborates with hardware engineers to define and implement hardware-software interfaces
- Debugs complex system-level issues using protocol analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other diagnostic tools
- Implements secure firmware update mechanisms and maintains version control systems
- Creates and maintains automated testing frameworks for embedded networking components
- Develops technical documentation for software architecture, APIs, and system interfaces
- Analyzes customer requirements and provides technical solutions for networking challenges
- Participates in design reviews and maintains coding standards for embedded software
- Troubleshoots and resolves field issues related to embedded networking components
- Monitors and evaluates system performance metrics to identify areas for improvement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience developing embedded systems with networking capabilities
- Demonstrated track record of shipping networked embedded products
- Strong portfolio of implemented networking components in resource-constrained environments
- Proven track record of writing efficient, maintainable code for embedded systems.
Skills
- Expert-level proficiency in modern C++ (C++11/14/17/20) with strong understanding of memory-efficient programming patterns and zero-copy techniques for embedded systems
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) and their implementation in embedded systems
- Experience with network security protocols (SSL/TLS, SSH) and secure communication implementation in embedded environments
- Proficiency with network management protocols (ICMP, APR, DNS, DHCP) and IoT protocols (MQTT)
- Experience with network analysis and debugging tools (Wireshark, protocol analyzers).
- Strong experience with wireless networking technologies (LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) required, experience with Zigbee preferred.
- Preferred experience with embedded Linux networking
- Strong background in unit and component level testing with modern framework (Catch) using BDD methodologies.
- Experience with performance optimization and debugging in multi-threaded embedded environments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Self motivated with strong project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

Target Pay Range: $108,700.00 to $135,900.00 - Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data
Target Bonus on Base: 7.0%
