SGS is seeking a full time Chemist to join the team in Perth Aiport WA.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITES
- Conduct routine and non-routine physical and chemical analytical testing of water, soil, and air samples using techniques such as CVAAS, Discrete Analyzer, TOC Analyzer, High Pressure Ion Chromatography, UV-vis spectroscopy, automated multi-parameter analyser, reflux reaction, and classical wet chemistry techniques including extraction, digestion, distillation, and titration.
- Develop and validate new analytical methods and instrumentation, involving R&D as required by the business.
- Monitor the performance of instruments, and perform scheduled calibrations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Validate and ensure the quality of data produced meets SGS’s quality policy, NATA certification, and stated data quality objectives.
- Assist in maintaining a safe working environment in the laboratory, including developing safety initiatives which would enhance safety further.
- Conduct safety and quality meetings and attend daily production meetings to discuss key laboratory issues.
- Supervise and coordinate the assigned team to complete test analyses within the stipulated time frame.
- Ensure all staff are trained in appropriate methods, instrument calibration, and maintenance as per NATA and quality requirements.
- Conduct method audits (investigatory and developmental experiments) to improve existing methods of analysis and develop new ones.
- Develop procedures, work instructions, and carry out risk assessments.
- Work together with other team members, including BMs, section heads, and key stakeholders within EHS Australia, for the successful completion of projects.
- Provide technical support to management and team members.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and initiatives to improve workflow, productivity, efficiency, and safety in the lab/section.
- Investigate and solve laboratory nonconformance reports.
- Be responsible for any hazards raised within the assigned section.
- Perform other duties as directed by the laboratory manager and business manager.
Qualifications
- Appropriate tertiary qualification, degree in Science (Chemistry) with minimum two years’ commercial lab experience.
- Demonstrable experience in an environmental laboratory, specifically Discrete Analyzer, TOC Analyzer, Ion Chromatography, Autotitrator and Wet chemistry techniques preferred.
- Flexibility with working hours and tasks.
- Some weekend work and overtime required from time to time.
